WRIST SHOT OF THE AP ROYAL OAK OFFSHORE “MONTAUK HIGHWAY” EDITION 26187ST.OO.D801CR.0

Recently one of my good client’s called me for some advice. He asked me about a particular Audemars Piguet watch that was made in a limited edition from 2009. I had totally forgot about this iconic and cool piece! The aforementioned watch I speak of is the limited “Montauk Highway” edition, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph. For those who are unfamiliar, The Montauk Highway is a road that goes from east to west and covers 95 miles to the southern tip of Long Island, Suffolk County New York.

In 2009, Audemars Piguet released this watch to commemorate the Montauk Highway in a 300 piece limited and numbered edition which was exclusively made available at New York based watch specialists and jewelers, London Jewelers. When I was in luxury watch retail many years ago, I was often on business trips and friendly with London Jewelers owners, Mark & Candy Udell, who were always kind and fun people to be around.

This watch is constructed out of stainless steel, it has a 42mm case diameter, a three registered chronograph with brown subdials featuring white numbers and baby blue hands . The dial is creamy white with baby blue Arabic Numerals, hands and tachymeter scale with green writing for legibility and contrast. It’s eqiupped with the in house AP Caliber 3126/3840 mechanical automatic movement with an approximate power reserve of 60-hours. It’s fitted on a on a brown “hornback” crocodile strap with contrasting baby blue stitching and stainless steel deployant clasp.

This is a great watch to own and collect! The original retail was $20,500. When you consider it’s been 11 years and you could proably get a pre-owned one in excellent condition, complete with box and papers for between $22,000-$24,000 and a NEW one if you can find one for closer to $30,000. Luckily, this is not outrageous like a lot of what the newer AP watches are commanding. As much as the needle on the resale of this watch hasn’t moved mountains, with there being only 300 pieces in circulation, eventually the prices will go up even further, especially if the market totally dries up and it does well at an important auction.
