The U-Boat Darkmoon “Unico” is encased in a bronze PVD steel frame that has undergone a meticulous manual treatment involving multiple acids. This process not only oxidizes the surface but also gives it an antiqued look that extends to the dial, offering each piece a distinct character and making every watch truly one-of-a-kind.

Oil Immersion Concept: Enhanced Visual Depth

A standout feature of the Darkmoon “Unico” besides the crown being on the left side of the case  is its implementation of the Oil Immersion concept. The entire case is filled with a special oil that not only protects the internal components but also enhances the visual depth of the dial. This creates an illusion of the absence of glass, which intensifies the color effects and improves readability under different lighting conditions. The presence of a compensating bubble and a domed dial with black numbers and indices amplify this three-dimensional effect, showcasing the watch’s intricate details and the unique imperfections from the oxidation process. In my opinion, while the concept is intriguing, the presence of the bubble disrupts the dial’s symmetry and compromises the clarity of its display.

Accompanying this exquisite timepiece is a 22mm Tuscan cognac laser-cut leather strap, aged naturally and stitched with waxed cotton. The steel pin buckle, treated with aged bronze PVD, echoes the watch’s vintage appeal while ensuring durability and comfort.
