Rolex released quite a puzzling Day/Date 36mm

Rolex really went for it this year when they unveiled three new versions of its iconic Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36, which are full of joy and energy. These watches come with an original dial that displays inspirational words  like ‘Happy’, ‘Eternity’, ‘Gratitude’, ‘Peace’, ‘Faith’, ‘Love’, and ‘Hope’ at 12 o’clock. In place of the date, a window at 3 o’clock reveals one of 31 exclusive emojis daily.

The bold dial is entirely created using champlevé enameling and boasts gleaming colors and decorations. Inspired by a jigsaw puzzle, the turquoise blue, red, fuchsia, orange, green, and yellow pieces fit together on a single-color background, with each representing one of the key moments in life. The hours are marked by 10 baguette-cut sapphires in six different hues set according to the main color of the dial.

The new versions of the Day-Date 36 are equipped with calibre 3255, a movement at the forefront of watchmaking technology. It enables them to display a special keyword each day of the week, an individual emoji each day of the month, as well as the hours, minutes, and seconds.

The Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36 is Superlative Chronometer certified, ensuring excellent performance on the wrist. Its 36 mm Oyster case, guaranteed to withstand depths of up to 100 meters (330 feet) water resistance with the Twinlock winding crown, fitted with a double waterproofness system, screws down securely against the case.

Calibre 3255, a movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex, is equipped with a self-winding system via a Perpetual rotor, with a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. It incorporates the patented Chronergy escapement, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability.

The new variants of the Day-Date 36 are fitted on a President bracelet in 18 ct yellow, white, or Everose gold, depending on the model. Created especially for the launch of the prestigious Oyster Perpetual Day-Date in 1956, this three-piece bracelet is known for its robustness and elegance. It features a concealed Crownclasp that blends seamlessly into the bracelet and provides optimal comfort on the wrist.

These latest versions of the Rolex Day-Date 36  may seem risky and completely crazy for some people. We are not use to seeing Rolex play around, especially on a watch as serious and iconic as the Day/Date. It just shows no matter what you may think and know about Rolex, think again! From my experience of selling Rolex watches for over 30 years, anytime they do something out of the box like this, it may get mocked or ridiculed at first but then out of nowhere, it becomes something of legend, the ultimate unicorn that collectors have to have
