A NEW MoonSwatch is on its way-The Omega Speedmaster X MoonSwatch 1965
A NEW Omega Speedmaster X MoonSwatch 1965 Drops on March 1, 2025!
In just two days—on March 1, 2025—the highly anticipated Omega Speedmaster X MoonSwatch 1965 will officially launch at select Swatch stores worldwide!
I almost wrote about this yesterday, but something told me to wait—and I’m glad I did! For the past week, Swatch’s official Instagram has been dropping cryptic teasers, hinting at the arrival of a brand-new MoonSwatch. Now, the wait is over, and the excitement is real!
It’s hard to believe, but it’s already been three years since the MoonSwatch phenomenon took the watch world by storm. Since its debut, it has captivated collectors and casual watch enthusiasts alike. Now, with this latest release, Omega and Swatch are once again ready to make history.
Why is 1965 Important?
In the 1960s, NASA set out to find a chronograph capable of withstanding the extreme conditions of space travel. To do so, they invited top watch brands to submit their best timepieces for testing.
Several renowned brands answered the call, including OMEGA, which submitted its Speedmaster ST105.003 (1964), Longines with the Wittnauer 235T, and X brand with reference 6238. These watches were subjected to eleven grueling tests, designed to simulate the harsh realities of space—including extreme temperatures, shocks, vibrations, and pressure changes.
In the end, only one timepiece passed every test: the OMEGA Speedmaster. Demonstrating unmatched durability, precision, and reliability, it was officially certified for all manned space missions on March 1, 1965. This milestone marked the beginning of OMEGA’s legendary role in space exploration, securing its place as the first watch on the moon and an essential companion for astronauts.
How is this different from any other MoonSwatch?
The Omega Speedmaster X MoonSwatch 1965 reimagines the classic MoonSwatch subdial layout, introducing a historic tribute to space exploration.
In this edition, the 10 o’clock subdial counts 19 hours, and the 2 o’clock subdial measures 65 minutes—a nod to 1965, when the OMEGA Speedmaster became NASA-certified for space missions.
Blending heritage with innovation, it features an applied original OMEGA logo, classic typeface, and signature hands within a sleek 42mm grey Bioceramic case. The 1960s OMEGA logo also appears on the crown and gray VELCRO® strap, accented with light gray stitching and a Bioceramic loop strap with a quick release system.
Resembling last year’s sought-after Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch with a white lacquered dial, this release is a collector’s must-have. With rich history, timeless design, and an accessible $270 price, the MoonSwatch 1965 is destined to be an instant classic.
Due to the unpredictable and volatile market on certain Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet watches, prices are subject to change.
