Last year IWC relaunched their iconic Pilot’s watches as they do and it has been a hug hit! They cleaned up their dials, introduced NEW models and lowered their price points. Recently they launched the NEW Pilot Chronograph Edition “Antoine de Saint Exupéry” Brown.
Normally I don’t like brown dials on watches. They can look really cheap and ugly but this particular watch is pretty cool. The dial is tobacco brown with white hands, indices and Arabic numerals. In the past we have seen the numbers get cut off on IWC watches but this watch is pretty symmetric considering it’s a three registered chronograph with hours, minutes with day/date function. None of the numbers have been cut off.
Thanks to the robust 79320-calibre chronograph movement, it is possible to record single and aggregate times of up to 12 hours. The subdials at “12” and “6 o’clock” are used for aggregate timing while the seconds hand at “9 o’clock” indicates that the watch is running normally. The movement has optimum protection against the effects of external magnetic fields in the form of a soft-iron inner case. The watch is water-resistant to 6 bar and is sold with a strap from Santoni.
The best part is this watch is $4,950 retail. It’a great value for a chronograph from a major luxury Swiss watch brand.
