PAM00721-Officine Panerai Radiomir 3 Days Design Miami
Panerai P.3000 in house movement
The last great watch that Panerai released as far as I am concerned is the PAM00448 in 2012. What I liked most about it was that it’s a historic piece with no markings on the dial. A simple black dial with only Arabic and Roman Numerals as well as steel blued hands. It was a 47 mm polished stainless steel Radiomir case. There were only 750 pieces produced. Panerai has just released their second watch (post vendome era) without any markings on the dial known as PAM00721. This is essentially a modern day interpretation of the 3646 reference from the 1930’s. The original significance of having unsigned dials like this for Panerai was for the Italian Navy during World War II, if their watches were seized by the Allies, the manufacturer wouldn’t be easy to find.
I love how symmetric this watch is. Four numbers and two hands. It has all the elements of a classic cult Panerai favorite like the classic black dial with 4 Arabic numerals with indices in between and steel blued hands and of course the classic 47mm Radiomir polished stainless steel case. The watch is powered by the reliable Swiss manual-wind Panerai in-house caliber P3000 with 21 jewels, 21,600 vph and a power reserve of 3 days. It features an Incabloc anti-shock absober and a Glucydur balance. The movement has a distinctive structure with wide bridges, two spring barrels which provide a power reserve of three days and a balance wheel that measures 13mm. This caliber has a rapid time-changing device that makes the hour hand jump forwards or backwards one hour at a time, without interfering with the minutes hand. It’s fitted on a Calf Ponte Vecchio, Brown, Beige, 27/22 MM Standard with stainless steel buckle. There are only 1,000 pieces ot this watch being produced for the world. It was exclusively available for a Panerai event at the Miami Design District from Dec 6-10. It will become officially available to retailers around the world in the new year for a retail price of $9,800. The crystal is made out of plexi glass like the vintage models from the 1930’s and second plexi glass crystal is included in the pearwood box with a personalized certificate with the serial number of the Special Edition and a rare publication on the military equipment of the special forces of the Royal Italian Navy. This watch is for that novice or collector who wants a modern taste of Panerai’s history .
