45 mm Rado HyperChrome Captain Cook
37mm Rado HyperChrome Captain Cook
Let me start by saying, one of the first times I ever heard of a watch being made of ceramic is from the watch company Rado. I know that IWC, Panerai and Chanel have gotten credit for popularizing ceramic but Rado was really the first brand to bring ceramic watches in the late eighties early nineties to the forefront, at least for me!
I know it may seem they came a little late to the party but Rado recently re-released or reinterpreted a vintage diver’s watch from their repetoire known as Captain Cook. This watch comes in two different sizes. Two different version in 37mm size, one for a man and one for a women and one in a bigger 45mm size. The 37mm cases are made out of stainless steel and the bezels are made out of ceramic while the bigger 45mm version cases and bezels are both ceramic. I love the dial on the 37mm version for men on a strap and from the info I have received, the 37mm version is closest to the original vintage one. I definitely prefer the larger 45 mm size. It’s much more masculine, everyday wearing and substantial! For all of you out there who aren’t aware, Rado is owned by the Swatch Group which own; Breguet, Omega, Glashutte Original, Tissot and Swatch just to name a few.
Rado has always been a quality made product, but now they have finally released something I like! The styling is amazing, the quality is there and the price is right. I wish they put the dial that’s on the 37mm for men on the 45mm version. The dial on the 37mm version for men has a warm gray dial with a sunburst finish and painted luminous hour markers. It’s looks so vintage and original this way. It’s warm and has character. The 45 mm version comes in a three dial options of dark, blue and colorted dials. The 45mm version on straps are $2,400 and the one on bracelet is $2,600. The 37mm version is $1,900 on a strap for men and $2,000 on a bracelet. The ladies version which comes with diamonds on a bracelet is $2,300. The 37mm version for men is limited to 1,962 pieces for the world which is the year the Rado Captain Cook was released. All Rado Captain Cook watches are water resistant to 100 meters, have ceramic bezels and use automatic movements.I would highly reccomend any of these watches to those of you who want a diver’s watch from a great reputable Swiss watch brand for under 3k!
