Panerai PAM00656 Panerai PAM00670
Last year Panerai was a part of Watches and Wonders in Hong Kong which is like SIHH for the far east. It’s another way for the Richemont Group’s watch brands and some other prestigious brands to show their novelties twice a year. This year Panerai has decided to announce novelties instead of showing at another watch show.
Panerai has released the 1950 Equation of Time GMT in titanium. It comes in two dial versions. PAM00656 with a blue sandwich dial and PAM00670 with a brown sandwich dial . Both watches are limited to 500 pieces each for the world and the retail is $21,600.
This watch is 47mm in case diameter, made out of titanium, functions include; hours, minutes, small seconds, date, month, Equation of Time, power reserve indicator on the caseback, and seconds reset.
I got to say with a limited run of 500 pieces each for the world, $21,600 is not a bad price sticker for a watch with this much technical savoir faire. Granted it’s made out of titanium but we have seen Panerai make some much simpler watches with less than half the complication for almost three times the price.
The watch is powered by the Swiss manual-wind Panerai in-house caliber P.2002/E with 31 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 8 days.
The dials, case, finishing and complications are well executed but there are way too many hands on this watch for my liking. Sometimes the greatest beauty is in simplicity. I am all about innovation and pushing the envelope but there are too many other watches I would rather have that I would actually wear everyday.
