I am a sucker for cushioned shaped watches. Especially if they are executed properly! Much is the case with the NEW re- issue that Longines released of the Heritage cushion from 1969. Please keep in mind I haven’t seen this watch live, but I can say with confidence that I don’t think I really have to. It’s simple, I love it!
The only thing that bums me out is the size which is 36 mm. Let’s face it, 40mm is the NEW 36mm , but I’ll cut it some slack since it’s a tribute type piece. This watch is very Madmen. It depicts a time and era so perfectly within a small circumference and screams vintage! The dial is silver with an incredibly finished sun ray pattern which is a nice touch. It has pink gold applied indices and hands. The stainless steel cushion shaped case is polished from every angle giving it a sophisticated and refined feel.
When you look at the original one from 1969 in the second pic above in gold to the right you can see the dial looks wider. The date wheel is bolder and it’s cleaner that the stainless steel re-issue to the left. Also I like the fact the original one( pictured right) does not have any unnecessary writing on the dial like the new version. I don’t like how it say automatic on the dial of the new one. The hands on the newer version are fatter and wider and so is the crown.
The movement is the ETA A31.L01. Longines is owned by the Swatch Group and they own ETA. So the movement is a very reliable work horse.
Longines are know for making very high quality timepieces for an affordable price. At $2,050 It may be the best valued dress watch on the market today! This watch will hit stores later this fall
