It hasn’t even been a year that Tudor released the incredible Black Bay Black. For this Baselworld 2016 Tudor has decided to release this watch and the other Black Bay models with in house manufactured movements. This is just outstanding for the brand. They are turning into a in house movement manufacturer and further solidifying their stamp on the intro luxury price point!
What makes this watch even more interesting is that it’s fitted on an oyster style riveted bracelet in stainless steel. This is a nod to the oyster style bracelets that were used in the 1950’s & 1960’s. The rest is the same in terms of the size at 41mm and the water resistance at 200 meters. The bezels and dials will all be the same except Instead of the Tudor Rose, all NEW Tudor Black Bay models produced from this point on will use the Tudor Shield. The movement is the MT5602 movement which has been designed, developed and manufactured in house by Tudor. This movement has a 70 hour power reserve. The ETA 2824 movement used in current Black Bay models has a 36 hour power reserve. On the NEW Tudor Black Bay Burgundy, there will be an additional fabric strap produced in a burgundy color.
Tudor is all about value and like we have seen with the other models that use in house movements the price is only slightly affected. The NEW Tudor Black Bay watches with in house movements will retail for $3,675 on a bracelet and $3,350 on a leather strap which is still unbelievable! Like all Tudor Black Bay watches whether you buy it on a distressed leather strap or bracelet they will come with an additional hand woven nylon strap in the box. I wonder how this will impact the current Black Bay models in terms of resale. I am sure that this can only be a good thing. Those of you who are hemming and hawing over getting yourself a Tudor Black Bay should go out and buy the current model because it’s still a bargain!
