There is no doubt that the Tudor Black Bay is slowly becoming as iconic as its brother, The Rolex Submariner. In only been three short years since it’s rebirth in 2013. Tudor has already dominated the 3-5k price point. The Tudor Black Bay has become the face of Tudor without question!
Recently, this picture above was leaked on some Rolex Forums. There is a lot of talk about it. When I wrote this article on Monday March 14, 2016 this wasn’t an official release from Tudor. When I checked the official Tudor watch website before I went to bed at 1 am on Wednesday March 16, 2016 this was confirmed as an official release by Tudor for Baselworld 2016! The first thing you think when you look at the NEW Tudor Black Bay Bronze is , “Oh wow, a Black Bay with a bronze case”. However, when you look at it closer you realize it’s very different in subtle but impactful ways. For starters this watch will be 43mm in case diameter and made out of bronze. The other difference is there are holes drilled into the case on either side for the strap. The current Tudor Black Bay models don’t have holes.
All Tudor Black Bay watches are currently 41mm in case diameter. Tudor hasn’t made a Black Bay in bronze, so this would be a first for the brand. I don’t know why Tudor would make this bigger than the others unless it was a specialty piece that was numbered or could this be the NEW size of the Black Bay models? Historically other than Black Bay One last year,Tudor doesn’t produce limited or numbered pieces.
The dial is brown and similar to the Black Bay Red and Black Bay Black. It would have the Arabic 3,6,9 instead of indices and circular indices in between. The bezel would be brown and bronze. This would also be a first for Tudor in the Black Bay collection. Instead of the Tudor rose underneath the upside-down triangle at the 12 o’clock position on the regular Black Bay models there would be the Tudor shield. The biggest and most significant change would be the addition of the NEW in house chronometer certified MT5601 movement. Last year Tudor released North Flag & Pelagos Blue models which were the first two Tudor watch models to have in house manufactured movements.
The current Tudor Black Bays on a strap retail for $3,100. Tudor has already shown us that they can have a watch with an in house movement for only a few hundred dollars more than a watch without an in house movement. Yup that’s right. The price of the Tudor Black Bay Bronze is $3,975 which is an absolute bargain! Especially for a NEW model in a bigger size, bronze case and in house movement. I really want one!
