Baselword 2016 is coming up very soon. All the novelties of the year from some of the most respected watch brands big and independent will be released. Amongst the top independent manufacturers that will be on hand will be none other than Romain Gauthier. Romaine Gauthier is an incredibly humble watch maker that produces less than 100 pieces for the world.
This year at Baselworld 2016, Romain will produce the HMS Ten. This will be launched to celebrate 10 years of Romain Gauthier’s watch brand. It will be produced in platinum, white gold & red gold each produced in a limited edition of ten pieces. In the words of Romain Gauthier, “With HMS Ten, supreme legibility was paramount,” says Romain Gauthier. “My idea was to have a dial with completely unobstructed views. Once the eye is drawn to the hour-minute subdial, it is then naturally attracted to the sectorial seconds. Nothing disturbs the wearer’s reading of the time.
“Such a timeless, elegant dial design came to me naturally because I was born in the heart of Swiss watchmaking, the Vallée de Joux, and was constantly exposed to classic, historical dial design as I grew up there.”
The case of the NEW HMS Ten is 41mm x 12.1mm in diameter. It has a sapphire crystal, a sapphire display back, and it is water resistant to 10 meters. Flat crown on caseback for ergonomic winding. Placing the crown flat on the caseback increases winding efficiency because energy does not need to be transmitted through a 90° angle. It also reduces wear and stress on components. The large diameter of the crown also enables the watch to be easily wound, even while on the wrist.
The movement is the Swiss manual-wind Romain Gauthier in-house caliber HMS with 22 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 60 hours. Fine hand finishing including hand polished screws and jewel countersinks, hand polished bevels and bridges. With its distinctive curved arms and calibrated eccentric weights, the balance wheel has been designed and manufactured by Romain Gauthier. The regulator even features a high-efficiency triangular pallet lever, another Romain Gauthier invention. Features and indications: off-center hours and minutes subdial at 12 o’clock, sectorial seconds at 4 o’clock. Dial open 4 o’clock to 8 o’clock to reveal balance wheel and seconds gear.
Each version has a different dial & strap to make it distinct.
The platinum version has a Blue dial – Smooth finish on subdial and seconds arc. Guilloche finish around hours-minutes subdial, silvered numerals and rhodium-treated hands.
White dial – Smooth finish. This has a bye alligator hand stitched strap with matching pin buckle.
The white gold version has a Anthacite dial – Smooth finish on subdial and seconds arc. Guilloche finish around hours-minutes subdial, black numerals and gilded hands. This has a black alligator strap with matching pin buckle.
The red gold version has a White dial – Smooth finish on subdial and seconds arc. Guilloche finish around hours-minutes subdial, black numerals and gilded hands. This has a brown alligator strap with matching pin buckle.
I would like to congratulate Romain for this incredible accomplishment and milestone. He is a passionate artist who believes in innovating a pushing the limits to achieve his goals and dreams. He is by far one of the most humble and nicest people I have had the honor and privilege of meeting and talking to in the watch industry.
