I love my job. It’s not work. It’s always a fun adventure and I never know who I am going to run into and what I am going to see. I travel a lot and have great relationships with my clients, Sometimes my clients are the ones that give me the best tips and allow me access to their personal collections.
Recently, Panerai announced a very special watch called the PAM00718. This is a limited edition 50 piece limited and numbered edition watch. It’s 42mm, white gold, 1940’s case with a California dial and blue hands. Even though this watch is on the smaller side, I really like it!!! This watch is powered by the hand wound P.1000 3 day movement and it’s fitted on a black alligator strap with white contrasting stitching.
I was on a short trip in Los Angeles visiting family and friends and I bumped into one of my good clients and he told me about this watch that he just purchased. I apologize for the crap lighting in the pic but I was able to get two somewhat decent pics of it above on the wrist. If you search the internet, there is not a lot of coverage on this particular piece. Panerai have not even released pics and technical info to put on their website. It really reminds me of vintage Rolex. Originally Rolex made this dial in the 1930’s for Panerai on a steel 47mm Radiomir case. So it’s interesting to see how it plays out on a 1940’s case in 18k white gold. My only gripe is that I wish it was a 47mm size, which is closer to the original size that Rolex made for Panerai back in the day.
In a smaller size this watch is elegant, sophisticated and tells a story. In the 47mm size it’s an iconic everyday tool watch. The pics I took above don’t really do the watch justice. It has amazing steel blued hands that I couldn’t capture because of the lighting.
After doing some more research after the fact, I found out that originally this piece was going to made as a one off unique piece for a good client at the Panerai Miami Flagship Boutique. From there, Panerai decided to make more for their good clients. This was a silent launch for Panerai. Considering there are only 50 of these pieces made, $20,500 is not a bad price for this piece. I believe this piece is totally sold out and NOT a production piece. It originally had to be requested to be made by the Panerai manufacture in Neuchatel Switzerland. This piece is definitely NOT available at your local AD. There might be one piece left if you are interested but you will have to call the Miami Panerai Boutique to get more info.
