A week from today, IWC will debut a NEW Mark XVIII. In the meantime they have shown us pics of a NEW Pilot’s 36mm automatic watch. This will be their entry level price point and throw back to their heritage in terms of size.
The NEW 36mm Pilot’s automatic will be available in stainless steel on a strap and a stainless steel bracelet. The dial is a grey adroit dial with 10 white Arabic numerals that has brushed sun ray pattern and a date function at the 3 o’clock position.
For a pilot’s watch it boasts a little more elegance than the traditional utilitarian pilot’s watches we are use to seeing from IWC with black dials. This suggests it can be worn by both men and women because of the size and the dial color as well as the elegant reddish brown alligator strap. The movement is an IWC caliber 35111 selitta base automatic with a 42 hour power reserve. This still has the soft iron core protecting it from magnetic fields. There is a subtle but impactful recessed circle within the minute track giving it dimension . This watch will retail for $3,950 on a strap and I am sure the bracelet version will be an additional $500-1000 extra.
It’s definitely not my pint of beer because I am more of a purist. However, I do think it’s a nice option for the male or female wearer with slightly smaller wrists who wants to join the IWC family for under 4k!
