Let’s face it, watches in gold are not really something I focus on. A, they are very expensive and B, they normally don’t hold their value at all period!
I recently had a client who was looking for a watch in 18k rose gold. Generally, my default answer would be to tell him/her to purchase an 18k Everose gold Rolex Daytona on a bracelet or an 18k Everose Rolex Daytona on a black alligator strap with a black ceramic bezel. These are both solid recommendations.
I realized this is not my typical customer. This is a customer who wants something different. They have massive wealth, sophistication and knowledge of fine timepieces, so I needed to up my wrist game!
Through my extensive research, I came across the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph in 18k pink gold on a bracelet referred to as “The Pounder” and the 18k pink gold Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph on a black alligator strap with contrasting stitching.
So I went to an Audemars Piguet Boutique, took a look, tried it on and played with it to understand it. Very quickly I realized I hit the mother load with a solid recommendation for my client. The watch is not only sophisticated with its own savoir fair, but has an everyday wearing sensibility with solid construction.
Since I work with authorized retailers for all the major luxury watch brands, I immediately assumed that this would be easy to help my client acquire and that would be that. I had a rude awakening when all of the authorized retailers I work with, told me they got their allocation for the year and they are not sure if they will get another one next year.
This watch is constructed out of solid 18k pink gold. It is 42mm which is the perfect size and well balanced for a watch in 18k pink gold.. It has a beautiful textured pink Mega Tapisserie pattern dial with contrasting black subdials for the chronograph and a date at the three o’clock position. The pushers and crown are made out of black ceramic. The version on the bracelet is known as “The Pounder” because it’s a pound of gold. The version on the black alligator strap is just right in every way. It ticks all the boxes and has staying power. Overall, the watch is thick, masculine. elegant, sporty and very well made!
I am still in a bit of a pickle because I haven’t found the watch for my client yet. I pride myself on getting my clients the impossible. I know I will find it with hard work and persistence, but I wanted to let those of you out there know who may be interested, that this would be the 18k pink gold watch to keep your eye on!
