A couple of weeks ago I wrote an article about General Douglas McArthur’s Jarger-LeCoultre Reverso being auctioned off in Hong Kong ,which you can read about here.
The results are now officially in and are staggering. The original auction estimates were $10k at the low end and $20k at the highest end. The historically important and very rare wristwatch inspired highly competitive bidding and sold for roughly $95,500 over four times its high estimate.
In the words of Etienne Lemenager, Co-Director & Watch Expert, Antiquorum Geneva, “We are thrilled with the outcome for General MacArthur’s Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso, This outstanding result for the watch that once belonged to one of the most celebrated American military heroes in history confirms that rare watches with exceptional provenance continue to drive extraordinary results at auction.”
I am happy for the direct descendents of General McArthur who consigned this watch, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Antiquorum who auctioned of this incredible important watch, which will go down in history as triumphant as its original owner.
