General Douglas Mcarthur is one of the most celebrated and controversial 5 Star war General’s in history. He was Chief of Staff of the United States Army during the 1930s and played a prominent role in the Pacific theater during World War II. He received the Medal of Honor for his service in the Philippines Campaign, which made him and his father Arthur MacArthur, Jr., the first father and son to be awarded the medal. He was one of only five men ever to rise to the rank of General of the Army in the US Army, and the only man ever to become a field marshal in the Philippine Army.
On May 10, 2015, Antiquorum Auctioneers will auction off “Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces” where they will be highlighting General Mcarthur’s Jaeger-LeCoultre Ref. 201 Steel Reverso at the Mandarin Oriental at Geneva Switzerland consigned by his direct descendants.
This watch is simply iconic and an incredible piece of history! This watch is made out of stainless steel and is 23 mm wide by 38mm high and 8mm thick. This watch dates to back 1935 just 4 years after the release of the Reverso.
The dial is black and the name of the retailer, Golay Fils & Stahl is stamped above the sub-seocnds hand at the six o’clock position above the marking Geneve. There are 11 Arabic numerals surrounded by an outer minute track. The hands are steel epee(sword) hands but have been re-lumed. When the watch is swiveled over on its reverse side, “D MAC A” with black enamel is engraved.
The best part is you would think a watch like this estimate would be between 50-100k, but Antiquorum has set the estimate between 10-20k which is very reasonable for something so rare, historic and iconic.
