I can’t believe that I overlooked this watch that Zenith released at Baselworld 2015. The Zenith Type 20 Pilot collection has been massively successful for the brand over the last few years. Last year they introduced an Extra Special Type 20 Pilot in stainless steel with time only function which you can read about here. The only problem was that they put in a Swiss Selita movement instead of an in house manufactured movement, which made collectors outraged.
For this Baselworld 2015, Zenith was able to right the wrong with flying colors with a NEW Zenith Type 20 Extra Special in Bronze with an in house Zenith Elite caliber 679 automatic movement .
This was really well received by enthusiasts, watch collectors and press. I absolutely love this watch! It’s the perfect combination between something old world vintage and modern day steam punk with the 45 mm bronze case. The dial is the super clean and matte black with all 12 Arabic numerals with full sweep seconds hand. I am pretty sure the crown is also done in bronze unless it’s titanium with bronze finishing. The case back is titanium and the watch is fitted on the oily Nubuck leather strap with rubber lining. This is also a time only watch. I thought it was a bargain in stainless steel at 5,400 without and in house movement but at $7,600 for a bronze case and in house movement it’s one of the best pure valued watches in the industry! Look out for this watch to hit stores later this year.
