In 1994 Zenith released the Elite movement which won movement of the year. This Basleworld for 2015, Zenith released a NEW Elite in house manufactured movement 6150 with 100 hour power reserve.
This work horse movement is fitted in a NEW 42 mm polished stainless steel case with tapered lugs. The crystal is domed sapphire while the caseback also sapphire shows off the NEW 6150 Elite movement. The watch is water resistant to 50 meters and is fitted on a black alligator strap. The dial is a nice silver tone with engraved and rhodium-plated hour markers and rhodium-plated and faceted hands. I normally am not a fan of double indices on a dial but the execution of it on this dial is quite fitting and gives it distinct character from dress watches with similar dials and profiles.
The best part is this watch is clean to the core. The elite has always prided itself on it’s thin movement and profile for subtle elegance. With the new Elite movement a second barrel was added to keep the movement thin at just under 4 mm while increasing its power reserve to over four days. This helps to ensure the case thickness at 10 mm. No frills, just markers, hands and a seconds hand. I love that the only writing on the dial is the Zenith Star logo and the name Zenith and that’s it! This watch looks like it could be from the thirties, but yet the wearer knows it’s constructed in a modern day way. The exciting part will be to see how much this watch retails for. Stay tuned!
