For Baselworld 2015 Tudor has released a NEW watch known as the North Flag. Even though it’s still ST Paddy’s Day as I am writing this on March 17, 2015 in the evening. It’s almost 2 AM March 18, 2015 in Switzerland. This means all the new releases from Rolex and Tudor will be made official at Baselworld Switzerland our tomorrow. (Out of respect to Tudor, I am not posting this article until after 1 am on March 18, 2015)
If you are like me and follow Tudor Brand Manager and old colleague Russell Kelly on Instagram. then you definitely took notice of the wrist shot he posted in the pic above of the NEW Tudor North Flag.
The NEW Tudor North Flag is the first watch Tudor has released with an in house movement known as the MT5621. This watch is 40 mm and is constructed out of stainless steel and comes in two versions; on a stainless steel bracelet or a matte black leather strap with contrasting yellow stitching. The inspiration for the case was taken from the Rolex Oyster Quartz of the seventies or Gerald Genta’s inconic design from 1976 that wee see on the Patek Nautilus, the AP Royal Oak and the IWC Ingenieur even today.
The dial is is bold matte black with The Arabic Numeral 12 and 6 and indices in-between in white. There is a seventy hour power reserve indicator in yellow with a white hand at the nine o’clock position and a date function at three o’clock position.
This movement is no joke. It’s robust, well designed and nice to look at. This can be seen visibly through the sapphire crystal case back. It has a seventy hour power reserve and a silicon hair spring.
What makes this even more interesting is that the price point is the familiar Tudor price point that we have come to know, love and appreciate as a value. The price of the watch will be $3,675 on a stainless steel bracelet and $3,550 on a matte black leather strap witch contrasting stitching. This is awesome! I think this has to officially be the best valued watch in the entire watch industry.
Unlike most Basel product that will ship in fall or by the end of the year, The NEW Tudor North Flag will ship next month in April.
