At Baselworld 2014, Nomos Glashutte released what became their most popular model, the Metro Datum. This was 37 mm in size, stainless steel and had an off center power reserve. You can read my full review of that watch here.
For this Baselworld 2015, Nomos Glashutte will release a new version with an important but modest facelift. First, the case has been slightly enhanced from 37mm to a new and bigger 38.5 mm in diameter. In my opinion 37mm was way to small and 38.5 is definitely a step in the right direction.
The dial has been made cleaner and more minimalist by removing the off center power reserve. Also the Nomos Glashutte logo has shifted from the 9 o’clock position to the 12 o’clock position making it much more symmetrical.
Another revision includes the subtle change in color to the painted dots at the 12,3 & 9 o’clock position from sea foam green to baby blue, which softens the dial more.
The movement has pretty much remained the same by using the Caliber DUW 4101 was the first movement from Nomos to incorporate its patented in-house designed “Swing-System” escapement .
I like the changes made to this watch, however I feel they Nomos SHould have also offered this in the original dial with the off centered power reserve feature in a bigger case size because it gives the watch character. As much as I like clean symmetry, there is a fine line between classic and boring.
I am sure their will be other cool and important novelties at Baselworld 2015, please stay tuned for the latest news from Nomos Glashutte.
