Longines heritage collection is some of the most stunning watches out there for the money. They have done it again!
They just released a special piece that is based on equipement used by the British Special Forces during the 1940s. Each item of this equipment was marked with the initials COSD and intended for the sole use of the Combined Operations Command created by the British War Office during the Second World War. These timepieces were much appreciated by the paratroopers.
The NEW reissue of the Heritage Military COSD is made out of satinized stainless steel and 40 mm in case diameter . Movement is the Swiss automatic Longines caliber L619.2 (base ETA 2892-A2) with 21 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 42 hours. Functions are: hours, minutes, seconds, and date at 3 o’clock.
The dial is matte black or opaline, with 11 Arabic numerals, 24 hours indicator in red and SuperLuminova dots and batons on the minute railway. The hands are rhodium-plated or blued steel with SuperLuminova on hours and minutes hands. This is fitted on a a black alligator strap or a khaki synthetic NATO strap with steel buckle.
I am not sure on the price, but I think this a fantastic watch! Hopefully it will be 2k or under fingers crossed. It maintains characteristics of their heritage while exhibiting the brands evolution. The crown on the original was much more pronounced while the seconds hand had a diamond tipped shape. The new version crown is more flush and the seconds hand is clean and and straight forward. . I am sure the original was smaller than 40mm because at that time 31-34mm were the standard size.
