I am pinching myself. This all seems so surreal! Last week I did a podcast about the Tudor Black Bay One and how I wished at some point Tudor would make a variation of this into a production piece. Low and behold today is the day it happens! What are the odds?? To hear my podcast about the Tudor Black Bay One, click here
The Tudor Black Bay One is a unique piece that Tudor produced and donated for Only watch auction for 2015 . Collectors went crazy for it as this is a modern day interpretation of the Tudor Submariner produced in 1954. I was hoping some time in the next 5 years that Tudor would produce some sort of version of this. I wasn’t alone in this. Real fans of Rolex and Tudor wanted this to become a reality and we are blessed that this is the case today! The NEW Tudor Black Bay Black is that classic tool watch but with its own original style.
Let’s face it, who wouldn’t want The Tudor Heritage Black Bay with black dial and black bezel? It’s a Rolex Submariner on a different day. The NEW Tudor Black Bay Black is the third color in the Black Bay collection and probably the most important one. This is a nod to the “Big Crown ” from 1958 and the Tudor snowflake hands that were first introduced by Tudor in 1969.
Like the Tudor Black Bay Red and Tudor Black Bay Midnight Blue, The NEW Tudor Black Bay Black has a 41mm case made out of polished stainless steel. The NEW Tudor Black Bay Black has a polished and satin finished unidirectional rotatable steel bezel with matte black disc. The red triangle at the twelve o’clock position on the black bezel is a detail common on a vintage Submariner from the 1950’s. The dial looks black from a distance but it’s actually a rich and warm chocolate brown. This has contrasting gold writing and gold piping around the indices which gives it personality and winks to their iconic history. The movement is the ETA 2824 self winding movement with 38 hours power reserve. The watch is water resistant to 200 meters/660ft.
The Tudor Black Bay Black is available on a stainless steel bracelet for $3,425 and $3,100 on a black distressed strap. Both models come with a black hand woven NATO strap for that utilitarian look for everyday.
After owning the Tudor Black Bay Red, I know how it’s made and the quality is outstanding. I really want the NEW Tudor Black Bay Black because it is the classic black on black tool watch that will always be relevant and transcend the test of time. It’s a hell of a value and I am not sure how long it will be produced. I prefer it to the Rolex Submariner because it’s cleaner, more understated and has character. I love that It doesn’t have a date or crown guards and the sapphire crystal is domed like the vintage models from the fifties.
