IWC Portuguese Annual Calendar 18k red gold with a silver plated dial (ref# IW503504). IWC Portuguese Annual Calendar stainless steel with a midnight blue dial (ref#IW503502)
The IWC Portuguese in my opinion is the nicest everyday dress watch that a man or women can wear. This watch is completely iconic, historic and timeless.
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of this incredible collection, IWC has released the Portuguese Annual Calendar. This watch will be available in three different variations of; stainless steel with a silver plated dial (ref# IW503501), stainless steel with a midnight blue dial (ref#IW503502) , and 18k red gold with a silver plated dial (ref# IW503504).
The original Portuguese was released in 1939 and this new version is very reminiscent of it. This new complication took IWC 5 years to develop. The brand new in-house 7 days automatic 52850 calibre powers this watch and has two barrels to provide the higher torque required to drive the three display discs. In addition, when fully wound, the twin barrels supply enough energy for a full week’s runtime.
This watch looks a lot like the current 7 Day Portuguese in that it has horizontal subdials at the nine and three o’clock positions with power reserve and sub-seconds hand functions. The NEW additional annual calendar feature is now displayed under the twelve o’clock marker spanning between the eleven an one o’clock marker to make room for the three discs indicating annual calendar functions of: month, date and day.
A couple things I noticed about this new addition. The size is welcome at 44.2 mm in case size. I love all the proportions and fonts. I think the new complication of an annual calendar is awesome and a must have for those who don’t want to commit to a perpetual calendar complication. I am not a fan of the boarder/trim around the annual calendar window or that it says annual calendar underneath.
I would like to congratulate IWC for this new addition to the Portuguese family in celebration of this timeless icon’s 75th birthday!
