The last two years have been interesting in the watch industry to say the least. We are seeing watch brands under 5K contend with the big boys!
For 7 years, my good friend Ramon Kingsley out of Providence RI, has been working on building his own watch brand. I am proud to say that his dream has finally come true because his brand Kingsley No. 1945 has officially launched and it’s amazing! These watches are available in three different finishes of stainless steel, stainless steel gold plated with bronze like finish and stainless steel with black PVD finish.
Ramone’s watches are inspired by World War II air crafts from the 1940’s. At that time, pilots would reward themselves with a box of cigars after a successful flight.
Two weeks ago, I ordered my Kingsley No. 1945 and received it a few days later. First, I was thoroughly impressed with how it packaged in a wooden cigar box. When I flipped open the box, a rendering of the model watch I ordered was there as a point of reference, giving me that very military issue feel. The warranty card had my name and the numbered edition out of 295 pieces printed on it, which was a nice personal touch.
So, the watch I chose was the Kingsley No. 1945 Flying Ace Thunderbolt. This is a 46 mm watch, constructed out of stainless steel, gold plated with a bronze like finish, giving this a feeling of a product that’s built to last for many years to come! I was lucky enough to specify when I ordered the watch that I wanted orange hands and that’s exactly what I received. These hands provided incredible contrast against the matte black, multii-layered, sandwich dial with white Arabic numerals. The functions are simple : hours, minutes, seconds and date. The movement is an original reclaimed, automatic, self-winding movement from the 1940’s that has been restored to modern day specs and can be seen through the mineral glass crystal case back, which has a unique design pattern inspired by B-2 bomber planes printed on it. I chose this to be fitted on a light tan calf strap, which ties in the look of a vintage Pilot’s watch very nicely. The quality of the strap, dial, case and overall execution is right up there with watches in the five thousand dollar range.
Overall, this whole experience felt very personal and boutique like. I just couldn’t get over how solid, masculine and unique this watch is for a new watch brand. I could see the inspiration from Panerai, Bell & Ross and Audemars Piguet in the design but completely original at the same time.
Ramone is very engaging, passionate and knowledgeable. Unlike other people who start watch brands, Ramone is extremely hands on because he builds each Kingsley No. 1945 watch himself. He knows his product inside out and the design is very purpose built from the working hex screws, to the crown guard.
In my opinion, this is the best watch made out there for under two thousand dollars! The price is only $1,500, which is nothing for a watch like this. Most watches in this price range are unoriginal and sell at department type stores.
Kingsley No 1945 watches are very exclusive and not available in just any retail store. Most of the product is sold out, but I am excited to announce, that this week, I became an official Kingsley No. 1945 distributor, one of only three in the world! Even though the product is selling out fast, Ramone is kind enough to accommodate my clients while limited supplies last, so when you are ready to order yours, please contact me here. I guarantee, you will be blown away! To check out the official Kingsley No. 1945 website, click here
