Today August 4, 2014 is the day that Rolex is launching something quite mysterious. The SPECULTATION is that Rolex released the DeepSea Challenge. The above graphic, LAUNCHING 4th AUGUST, was put up on the official Rolex website a week ago as a teaser of what seems to be a professional divers watch.
There aren’t any pictures of what Rolex is officially releasing yet. For those of you who are unaware, the Rolex DeepSea Challenge was an Experimental Watch developed for Oscar winning director, James Cameron’s DeepSea Challenge decent, 7 miles straight down to the bottom of Mariana Trench, the deepest place on earth in 2012. This watch was attached to his diving vessel. James Cameron is an avid Rolex Submariner wearer and was responsible in part with Rolex for the design of The Rolex Deep Sea.
This experimental watch miraculously was in tact after the mission was successfully completed. This watch stood 51.4 mm and was constructed out of 904L stainless steel with a grade 5 titanium case back. This watch was water resistant to 12,000 meters or 39,370 ft. Just the pressure on the crystal alone was 17 tons!
Of course, those in the know back in 2012 wanted this watch to be made as a production piece which would solidify this as the ultimate divers watch because of the size, functionality and exclusivity. Rolex works at their own pace and cleverly decides what they want to release making us want more every time.
The reason behind the speculation that Rolex will be releasing this NEW DeepSea Challenge as a production piece is because James Cameron’s movie of the DeepSea Challenge 3D will be released Aug 8, 2014.
The world is eagerly awaiting pictures and technical info of exactly what Rolex is officially releasing, but my guess is that it’s going to be fantastic!

*I just got a tip from an anonymous source that the watch that Rolex has released is a stainless steel DeepSea with a blue dial. I appreciate the tip, but I will believe it when I actually see it live from Rolex to confirm this information is accurate.
