I have never written about the Panerai PAM00424 simply because I was not a fan. I will say, since Panerai has recently made this subtle but important change of removing the date to keep it more original, it has definitely peeked my interest. Now if they could remove the OP logo at the six o’clock position, that would be a dream.
The PAM00424 is an amazing design that originally came from Rolex design language from the late 1930’s. When you add a date or any other markings on the dial, it completely throws off the symmetry and changes the language of the way the dial is laid out.
This watch has a stainless steel 47 mm Radiomir case with wired lugs. The dial is a combination of Roman Numeral and Arabic numerals affectionately called the California Dial. The hands are gold and treated with super luminova for ultimate luminosity as are the applied numbers on the contrasting black dial. The watch has a screw down onion winding crown and is fitted on a brown assolomente calf strap which gives it a vintage feel.
I totally applaud Panerai for making this important change for the better and paying respect to their original DNA
