For this Basel 2014, Omega commemorates the first lunar landing that took place in 1969 and celebrates its connection to the iconic chronograph that was part of the adventure by releasing the Speedmaster Apollo 11 45th anniversary.
This new limited edition Omega Speedmaster chronograph is 42 mm in size and is constructed out of titanium with 18k Sedna gold bezel, hands and indices, which is an 18k rose gold who’s elements ensures its long lasting luster, the dial is made out of black PVD which is manufactured using a special laser creating the design elements on the watches face by removing the material surrounding the name, sub-dial numerals and hour markers. The movement is an in-house calibre 1861, while the watch is fitted on a brown coated nylon fabric strap which is inspired by the original NATO straps issued to military personnel since the end of the 1950s.
This watch has a great military feel. I love the way the Sedna gold and titanium play of each other achieving a very vintage look, while maintaining the highest level of modern finishing. The watch is limited and numbered to 1969 pieces for the world and I am sure it’s already sold out!
