I am always fascinated with what people are wearing on their wrist. It doesn’t matter if it’s on the Tube on the London Underground, The streets of NYC, up in the air on an international flight, or the upscale bar I often frequent on the 23rd Floor right here in Las Vegas.
My passion for fine timepieces and my extensive experience in retail combined with my intrigue and photographic memory have made me pretty quick to recognize a nice time piece as far as I can see.
About six weeks ago, I had an amazing encounter when I was sipping my favorite cocktail. the Old Fashion with Rye. As I casually looked over to my left, I noticed a middle aged gentleman in a made to measure suite wearing the highly coveted and cult Rolex Green Crystal Milgauss. Within 5 seconds, I knew exactly what it was because I have owned this watch before. The beautiful sheen of the highly polished center links combined with the brushed outer links of the iconic oyster bracelet and the incredible contrast of the orange lightening bolt second hand against the black dial and green crystal, there was no mistaking what that was.
I had to comment on this, I needed to reach out and give Kudos to the man wearing such a fine timepiece. Not everyone knows what this watch is because it’s somewhat exclusive comparative to other stainless steel Rolex Watches. So, I waited for what I thought was the right moment and said “nice stainless steel Green Crystal Milgauss”. The gentleman acknowledged me and said, “thank you, how did you know it was the Green Crystal?” I said. “how much time do you have?” The rest is history!
I am truly amazed because over the bonding of this watch, we have developed a friendship. This gentleman is one of the senior most people in one of the biggest, most prestigious, money market firms in the world. Not only do we share a taste for great liquor, fine fabric, beautiful women, but watches as symbols of individuality and expression of achievement. Watches are such a subtle nuance, but a very important one. They can be worn in any situation and be recognized by the best taste makers in the world and yet fly under the radar to most people who are not in the know at the same time.
I am grateful to have had this amazing experience because not only did I make a new client but a valuable friendship which money can’t buy.
