Tudor Nominated For The Fifth Year In A Row In Two Categories For The GPHG Award

Tudor is no stranger to the GPHP Awards. It is one of the most coveted and respected prizes within the luxury watch industry!

For those of you out who need further clarification, The GPHG is the Foundation of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) – recognised as a public interest organisation – was officially established before a notary in Geneva on May 31st 2011. The five founding members are as follows:

The Republic and Canton of Geneva

The City of Geneva

The Musée International de l’Horlogerie/International Museum of Horology (MIH) in La Chaux-de-Fonds

The Geneva Laboratory of Horology and Microengineering (Timelab)

The Edipresse group

All the founding members, apart from the Edipresse group, are represented on the Board of the Foundation, which is chaired by Mr. Carlo Lamprecht, former President of the Geneva State Council.

The main objective of the Foundation of the GPHG is to contribute, thanks to its label, to promoting Swiss watchmaking and its values around the world.

The Foundation annually organizes the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), which is intended to salute the excellence of worldwide horological production and annually rewards the finest creations and the most important operators in the watchmaking sector.

The GPHG prizegiving ceremony held in November of each year at Grand Théâtre de Genève draws elite representatives of the international watchmaking profession.

The watches pre-selected for the GPHG, as well as the winners, take part in a traveling exhibition that enables an international audience to discover and admire the finest timepieces of the year, exceptionally united on this occasion. This exhibition is held each year during the months of October and November in the countries that generate the greatest interest in the watch market.

To serve the best interests of the industry, the Foundation of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) ensures the expertise of an Advisory Committee of the profession. This Committee, which meets annually, is to advise the members of the Foundation Board, particularly regarding the selection of the jury. It is open to all leaders of watch brands and recognized experts in the field.

To be clear, since Tudor’s triumphant return back to the watch industry in 2013, they have won GPHG Awards back to back. 2014 was the only year they didn’t win but nonetheless, they were nominated in three categories.

Both watches were very well received by the press, collectors, and the like when they debuted at Baselworld 2018 earlier this year. In my opinion, the Tudor Black Bay GMT is the watch that will bring the brand to more of a mainstream global audience because it looks like a vintage Rolex GMT-Master “Pepsi” at an incredible price under 4k. The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight gives the wearer that vintage familiar feel from the late fifties with the warm gold tones on the dial, bezel, and hands while owning its modern-day attributes at the same time!
