Ceramic Precision to the Ingenieur Line

2025 marked a defining moment for the IWC Ingenieur. At Watches and Wonders Geneva, IWC debuted the bold Ingenieur 42 in black ceramic—a design rooted in Gérald Genta’s legacy and elevated through modern materials. Interestingly, IWC was among the first major luxury watch brands to pioneer ceramic case construction back in the late ’80s and early ’90s, setting the foundation for today’s innovation.

How Big Is the IWC Ingenieur 42 Black Ceramic?

The new Ingenieur IW338903 features a case measuring 42mm in diameter and 11.6mm in thickness. Crafted entirely from black zirconium oxide ceramic, the case structure includes the ring, bezel, and case back—ensuring durability and scratch resistance throughout.

A Case That Combines Form, Finish, and Function

IWC applies satin-finishing, sandblasting, and polishing to each ceramic component. These contrasting textures elevate the visual depth and modern aesthetic. Even the crown and crown protection use ceramic, extending the watch’s toughness to every detail.

Engineered Comfort with Integrated Design

The integrated ceramic bracelet, anchored by middle links, delivers a seamless fit. As ceramic remains lightweight and hypoallergenic, the watch wears comfortably all day. This is the first time the Ingenieur bracelet design appears in full ceramic, marking a milestone for the collection.

Signature Dial, Elevated in Black

The black dial features the signature “Grid” pattern—a geometric motif of squares and lines. Paired with black hands and metal markers filled with SuperLuminova, the layout ensures high legibility in low-light conditions.

Power and Performance from Within

Powering the watch is the in-house IWC 82110 caliber, equipped with a Pellaton winding system and ceramic components for longevity. The movement holds a 60-hour power reserve and is visible through the tinted sapphire caseback, enhancing both style and transparency.

A Ceramic Masterclass in Everyday Wear

While brands like Girard-Perregaux and Bulgari offer full ceramic watches with integrated bracelets at $25,000 and $27,000 respectively, the IWC Ingenieur 42 Black Ceramic offers more for less. Priced at $19,500, this model delivers a full material reimagining, not just a design tweak. It combines heritage styling with advanced materials and construction. As a result, it’s one of the most wearable and innovative IWC releases of 2025.

Due to the unpredictable and volatile market on certain Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet watches, prices are subject to change.
